Sentimental Storage for people in North Carolina

Spring is HERE and if you are like me, you find yourself cleaning out closets and trying to get things organized around your home.

Inevitably, sentimental items pop up when you are sifting through all the things. A few years ago I hosted a decluttering group in which we focused on storing our sentimental items.

These storage bags are perfect for holding special clothing, shoes, and other small sentimental items from my babies. Each child has their own labeled bag and inside the bag is a handwritten letter from me. A little story or memory from each item, another form of intentional connection between us.

What I loved about this process was giving myself permission to keep the things I really cherished, with the purpose of sharing those special items with my kids. Everything else seemed less special and was easy to let go of. Donating gently used items to women’s shelters is a great way to pass along items that can be used again.

Oh goodness! We love our Baby Jae!

Special Note. I have cedar shavings in a little sachet for each bag. Something like THIS would work well to keep items in great (smelling) condition.

What did you do with all your STUFF?!

This is the first question we get asked when people find out we have moved from a 3 bedroom 1 bath home with a LARGE attic and HUGE workshop to a 2 room, 1 bath home. Here is some Instagram VS. Reality for you.

Now the reality of the complete view….. :)

The truth is we were not able to keep everything we owned. I sold a lot and donated 5 carloads FULL of clothing and items we just no longer needed. This unit is full of some miscellaneous household items and a fair bit of Jon’s tools that we need to keep locked up. It was not my ideal choice, but a necessary, temporary option for right now.
Also, I have another small unit in Burlington that I am keeping our extra furniture, some décor and our seasonal clothing. I cannot remember everything I’ve sold, donated or given away and I can tell you I haven’t missed anything…...yet! ;o)

Tomorrow I will be sharing how we are keeping items organized INSIDE our home.
